Former Braunstone Hall transformed into impressive events venue and hotel

Plans for the £2 million refurbishment of Braunstone Hall in Leicester received planning consent towards the end of 2015. The project has just been completed, with the official unveiling of the hugely impressive 19 room boutique hotel, which features two exquisite ballrooms.

The Grade II listed building is being brought back to life: after closing as a school 20 years ago, it was abandoned – leaving it vulnerable to vandalism.

    SES’s 2 stage approach

SES Technical’s first involvement with the Braunstone project came when they provided the initial lighting design and consultancy for the venue, including the ballrooms and a glazed courtyard which was drawn into the heart of the facility as part of the refurbishment work.

The second stage came with the provision and installation of an impressive array of audio visual equipment to enable both the cutting edge audio design and a comprehensive, versatile, computer controlled mood enhancing system of LED lighting.

    Bespoke lighting

A number of the full colour LED halo effect lighting units at the Hall were entirely bespoke and were created by a specialist local supplier, Abstract AVR.

The Ledion Ultra Strip 1200s that were deployed on the project, provide a high power multi-source linear wash, housed in a robust anodised aluminium extrusion. This product is perfect for wall grazing and other applications where high power linear light is required.

SES were the first specialists to utilise the brand new British made QDS-75 DMX Driver (below) and also supplied a range of powered DMX par cans and RGB tape.

Muthar Al-Salloum, from Hinckley-based MAS Architecture is quoted on the Leicester Mercury website as saying

“It’s been very exciting. The way the glass sits right against the brick, for instance, was very important in bringing the old and the new together.

“And the skills of the tradespeople and the carpenters has been immense.”
